Cost of Botox and Dysport
Our “What does it really cost” series sheds light on how much different people across the country spend on the big life events: having a baby, taking a sabbatical year, moving, getting a master’s degree, buying a house, etc. This week’s feature is highlighting the cost of Botox. We asked several community members to share their costs to receive Botox or Dysport, and below is a table of what was self reported. Additionally, we also shared one woman’s longer commentary on her experience with Botox below.
Location | Age | Injectable | Frequency | Cost / Unit | # of Units | Total Cost |
New York, NY | 37 | Botox | 4 times / year | $18 | 37 | $2,664 |
Washingon, DC | 28 | Dysport | 2 times / year | $15 | 27 | $800 |
Seattle, WA | 29 | Botox | 4 times / year | $15.25 | 40 | $2,440 |

What determines the cost of Botox or other treatments to slow the signs of aging?
The cost of Botox varies based upon where you live, how many units you receive, who delivers the injectable (a Board certified dermatologist will cost more), and the area of your face that you’re targeting (smaller areas will cost less).
Botox is also not the only injectable available. As an example, if you’re targeting the frown lines between your eyes, Dysport is a commonly used alternative to Botox. Generally, Dysport works more quickly than Botox but requires more units. It is also only approved for use on the forehead muscles while Botox can be used on different parts of the face. Additionally, Dysport is cheaper per unit than Botox but since it requires more units to achieve a similar effect, the total cost is generally comparable.
